IIT Kharagpur Introduces New Scholarships and Awards for UG Students

IIT Kharagpur has rolled out several new scholarships and awards for UG (Under Graduate) students. The newly introduced nine scholarships and two awards are meant for research and academic purposes. The donations made by IIT KGP alumni and corporates enabled IIT Kharagpur to include new scholarships and awards. The new scholarships and awards will be offered to students from July 2018.

Dean of Alumni Affairs at IIT Kharagpur, Subrata Chattopadhyay revealed that the lower cut-off for economically backward students, existing scholarships for the students are at such a threshold that students belonging to marginally higher categories are unable to apply for any assistance. Therefore, the premier institute planned to launch new scholarships and awards so that these students can get some financial assistance, explained by the Dean.

Apart from the cost of living, students from marginally higher categories also need some sort of financial assistance. Therefore, IIT Kharagpur has increased the current family income up to Rs. 10 lakh – 15 lakh per annum for different scholarships so that the institute can accommodate more students.

IIT Kharagpur will also fund research at UG level from its endowment fund built out of alumni donations.

About IIT Kharagpur Scholarships:

The following is the list of various scholarships offered by IIT Kharagpur: -

• At least 1,000 students from IIT Kharagpur receive financial assistance from different external agencies, corporations and foundations.
• Similarly, more than 1,000 students from IIT Kharagpur receive scholarships on merit-cum-means.
• IIT Kharagpur offers hundreds of Endowment Prizes and Free Tuition to selected students.
• The institute will also offer scholarships funded by alumni.
