IIT Madras (Indian Institute of Technology) celebrated its 59th Institute Day on April 26, 2018, Thursday. President and Managing Director of Saint Gobain Limited, Mr. B Santhanam was the Chief Guest of the celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Santhanam pointed that success does not have an easy route or shortcut. Instead, a methodical approach in all aspects will bring success in life and career. It is the responsibility of the students to imbibe qualities such as being non-judgemental, staying curious, building contacts, networking, collaboration and remaining deeply focused on their tasks, he pointed.

Explaining further, Mr. Santhanam stressed on building contacts since it enhances the quality and chances for good opportunities. On the other hand, network amplifies one’s power of reach. One has to practice and must note that there is no deadline, he motivated.
Mr. Santhanam highlighted that IIT Madras emerged as one of the best premier institutes over the years for its standard and output in research. The reputation of the institute has enhanced in the last three days, and the result can be witnessed through the performance of IIT Madras in NIRF Ranking, he expressed.

The Presidential Address was presented by Director of IIT Madras, Mr. Bhaskar Ramamurthi. Expressing his happiness over the institute’s performance in various aspects, Mr. Ramamurthi said that the institute has emerged as a significant contributor in building the nation. IIT Madras is the first institute in India to set up a full-fledged development office to raise resources, he underscored.
On the occasion of 59th Institute Day, IIT Madras honoured 12 distinguished alumni for their achievement in the chosen field. Director of IIT Madras presented the distinguished alumni awards and academic awards to 21 research scholars.
The funds raised by IIT Madras through Saarang 2018 were donated to two organisations, Chudar Foundation and Deepam Trust.
