A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras and Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) for seat allocation at IITs and NITs. These two institutes will carry out seat allotment for around 90 institutes. The MoU was signed by Prof. Y. Uday Kumar, MNIT and Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthy, IIT Madras.

A meeting of Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) was held at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. In the meeting, it has been decided that the top 20 percentile cut-off will be made available on the web portals of 23 Boards latest by June 10, 2017. Through this MoU, MNIT and IIT Madras will allocate admission to the candidates as per the following criterion: -
- Candidates belonging to General Category who have more than 75% of marks in Class 12
- 65% of marks for SC/ ST/ PH candidates in Class 12
- Top 20 percentile score of qualified candidates from various boards (alternative).

JoSAA 2017 conducts counselling and allotment of UG engineering seats for those candidates who have cleared JEE (Advanced) 2017 examination. It is expected that the JoSAA seat allotment might take place in six rounds. Prominent personalities from various IITs were present at JoSAA 2017 meeting.
Earlier, JoSAA directed the school boards to declare cut-off marks by June 10, 2017, to avoid delay in the admission process. However, CBSE and various school boards assured that they would provide the top 20 percentile cut-off by the third week of May.
