IIT Delhi Adds New Exam Centre in United States for JEE Advanced 2020

The IIT Joint Admission Board has announced the examination date for JEE Advanced 2020. The 2020 JEE Advanced will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, on 17th May 2019. IIT JAB has also mentioned various including adding a JEE Advanced exam centre in the USA.

JEE Advanced New Exam Centre

The acclaimed engineering entrance test, the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced or JEE Advanced 2020, will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). As per official sources, JEE Advanced is set to be held on the 17th of May 2020.

The authority responsible for conducting the JEE Advanced, IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) has announced various changes in the examination for next, including adding a new country to the list where JEE Advanced will be conducted. A meeting had been conducted on 15th September 2019, where it was decided to conduct the JEE Advanced 2020 in the city of San Fransisco in the United States of America.

Speaking on the topic, Prof Ramgopal Rao, IIT Delhi Director stated that the JEE Advanced, which is a necessary factor for taking admission to the different IITs in India, has seen many changes for next year. He stated that to promote cultural diversity in the institutes, such changes have been taken. He further added that JEE Advanced is currently conducted in 5 different countries, which include, UAE, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Ethiopia, soon to be joined by the USA as well.

The IIT Delhi Director mentioned the reason for adding the USA to the list was that many IIT alumni have provided their services in the country and the brand of IIT had been growing in the USA. However, due to the lack of applicants from two international cities this year, IIT JAB has decided to discontinue the exam centres in Colombo, Sri Lanka and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Among the other changes that have been announced by IIT JAB is the number of intakes that will be accepted for JEE Advanced 2020. As per sources, an additional 10,000 candidates (All Categories) will be selected from those who clear the JEE Mains. Previously, the first 2,40,000 students were selected for JEE Advanced. With the additional seats, the number of candidates eligible for JEE Advanced will now be bumped up to 2,50,000.

Another major change that has been announced by the board is the timings of the examinations. The JEE Advanced 2020 will be conducted on 17th May 2020, with Paper-1 from 9 am to 12 noon and Paper-2 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The Organizing Chairman of JEE Advanced 2020, Siddharth Pandey stated that the earlier, Paper-2 used to be conducted at 2 pm. However to facilitate an easier time for the PwD candidates as well as ensure a more efficient biometric verification process at the centers, the timings have been changed.
