Factors Determining JEE Main Marks vs Ranks 2024

The JEE Main ranks vs score 2024 and marks vs percentile JEE Mains 2024 are determined based on various factors that change every year. Some of the top factors determining JEE Mains 2024 marks vs percentile are listed below:

  • The difficulty level of JEE Main Exam 2024

  • Total number of candidates registered for the JEE Main exam

  • Performance of candidates/marks secured

  • Trends in Marks vs Rank JEE Mains from Previous Years

Use of JEE Percentile in Calculating JEE Main 2024 Rank

Now that you have read about the comprehensive study of marks vs percentile jee mains 2024 and JEE Mains marks vs percentile 2024, it is also important to know that while compiling the JEE Main merit list and allotting the JEE Main 2024 ranks to students, the total, as well as the subject-wise percentile scores are considered in the order given below.

  • Students who obtain a higher total JEE Main 2024 percentile score will be given a preference

  • If the tie persists, students who obtain a higher percentile score in Mathematics will be considered

  • If the tie exists even after that, candidates who obtain a higher percentile score in Physics will be given a preference

  • In case the tie persists after that as well, candidates who obtain a higher percentile score in Chemistry will be considered

  • Apart from that, if the candidate appears for JEE Main in January and April, the best of the two total percentile scores will be considered. In this case, the subject-wise percentile scores will not be taken into consideration. However, the subject-wise percentile will be considered if the candidate appears for JEE Main in either January or April

What is JEE Main 2024 Percentile Score?

The JEE Main percentile 2024 score tells how a candidate has performed in comparison to all the other students who appeared for the exam and to calculate JEE Main 2024 marks vs percentile. The percentile is neither the percentage score (that is the percentage of the maximum marks obtained by a student) nor the raw marks (the total and absolute marks secured by the student).

The percentile score of JEE Mains will tell the student what percentage of the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam scored less than or equal to that particular percentile in that examination. The formula to calculate JEE Main 2024 percentile score and JEE Main 2024 marks vs percentile is given below.

JEE Main Percentile Score of a Student = 100 x (The number of students who secured a raw score or an actual score that is EQUAL TO OR LESS) / (The total number of students who appeared in that session)

With this formula, the raw marks of the students are normalized and expressed as JEE Main Percentile Score (which is also called NTA Score) and the discrepancy caused by variation of difficulty level across various sessions is eliminated.

What is the purpose of announcing the JEE Main Result 2024 in percentile?

Two sessions, spanning five to six days, with two shifts per day, comprise the JEE Main entrance exam. There might be differences in the exam’s difficulty level between each day because of this setup. The JEE Main normalization process is employed to reduce the possibility of this difference in level of difficulty.

Normalized marks are comparative scores determined by the National Testing Agency (NTA) via a specially developed formula; they don’t represent the candidate’s actual scores. This methodology guarantees impartiality and uniformity in evaluating candidates’ performance throughout the JEE Main examination sessions.

JEE Main 2024 Normalization Method

Since the entrance test is divided into two sessions, the JEE Main 2024 Normalisation is used to equalize the difficulty levels. Therefore, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announces the percentile attained after normalization in the NTA JEE Main 2024 Exam. Percentile scores reflect the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or below that specific percentile in that examination (same or lower raw scores), and this is normally from a scale of 100 to 0 for each session of candidates. As a result, the highest scorer in each IIT JEE Main 2024 exam session will end up with the same ideal percentile of 100. To achieve this highest score, it is always advised to solve the previous year's question papers which will help you in understanding the concepts. Also, do not forget about the JEE Main 2024 marks vs percentile.

The NTA will combine the candidates' raw marks and normalize them to get the percentile scores for each subject - Physics, Mathematics,  and Chemistry –  as well as the overall scores. Each JEE Main 2024 session's best score will receive the same percentile of 100. The percentages acquired between the top and lowest scores will likewise be converted to calculate JEE Mains 2024 marks vs percentile. This percentile score will be used to compile the JEE Main 2024 merit lists. Percentile scores will be computed up to 7 decimal places, which will lessen the effect of bunching as well as ties among candidates with the same scores. If candidates are unsure, they can use the JEE Main college predictor 2024 to check their chances of admission into various institutes.

How to Calculate JEE Main 2024 Percentile Score?

JEE Main Result 2024 is available individually for each session on the JEE Main official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The JEE Main Session 2 Result 2024 will be released on April 25, 2024. The JEE Main merit list 2024 is generated based on the final scores and ranks announced by the authorities. Candidates can check the method of how NTA scores are calculated given below.

  • Total Percentile Formula - (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than T1 score) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session

  • Total Mathematics Percentile Formula - (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than T1 score in Mathematics) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session

  • Total Physics Percentile Formula - (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than T1 score in Physics) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session

  • Total Chemistry Percentile Formula - (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the T1 score in Chemistry) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session

Difference between JEE Mains Marks and Percentile

The actual percentage or marks achieved by a candidate may not match their JEE percentile score. It compares the performance of each applicant to that of the other applicants. The percentile score is the total percentage of candidates who achieved a test score that was either lower than or equal to a specific score.
