A 25-year old engineer supported his family by running a dhaba and then realised his dream of pursuing an MBA course at the prestigious IIM of the country. Learn about his inspiring journey here.

Meet Shashank Agarwal - Engineer, Entrepreneur and an MBA at 25!

Shashank Agarwal’s success story is an inspiring one. It was in his second year of engineering course when Shashank started to run a Dhaba to sustain his family needs and financial requirements. Simultaneously, he also prepared for the top management entrance exams and despite all odds, Shashank cracked CAT 2017 exam with 98.01 percentile. He was offered admission in IIM Rohtak basis his result turning his dream of studying management at a premier MBA college in India all true.

25-year-old Shashank Agarwal lost his father in his early years. He completed his school education with the help of his grandfather whose pension supported the family. After the completion of Class 12, Agarwal secured an engineering seat in an Indore-based college. Everything was going well until Shashank’s grandfather passed away. At that time, Shashank was pursuing the second-year engineering course.

The family conditions urged Shashank to take up family responsibilities and alongside continue his education. He borrowed Rs. 50,000 and started a Dhaba for students at Bhawar Kaur Square in Indore which is a hot spot for students as most of them take coaching for competitive exams in that area.

Shashank served unlimited food for just Rs. 50 and within few days, his Dhaba gained popularity in the region. He used to earn at least Rs. 30,000 per month. With a motive to pursue studies further, Shashank hired five people to manage the Dhaba. He attended the college in the mornings and used to work at the Dhaba until 11:00 PM in the evenings.

Running a Dhaba helped Shashank understand the process of selling and marketing things. It was then he decided to pursue a management course. After engineering, Shashank joined a start-up in Hyderabad followed by an education technology company in Indore. He prepared for CAT while working with the educational technology company that prepares content for various competitive exams.

According to Shashank, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section was easy for him. He advised the future CAT aspirants to analyse sections they need to work on and devote at least three months to prepare for CAT.
