Najma Akhtar, The Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi, has announced that the ongoing semester examinations in the university have been cancelled until further notice. The Vice-Chancellor came out and talked to the students directly, communicating her decision and taking cognizance of the student's issue with police failing to take notice of their report against the events of December 15, 2019.

The same was also communicated to the students in a notice issued by the Office of the Controller of Examinations on January 13, 2020. The decision was taken by the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Dean, Head of Departments and other officials of Jamia Milia University. The notice also informs the concerned Deans, HoDs and Directors will prepare the fresh schedule. The students will also be consulted in preparing this schedule.
The VC's announcement comes amid protests by the students demanding that Delhi Police take their complaint. While the VC has addressed the student issues and said that the university will soon begin legal proceedings to resolve this issue and abate the student protests, no word has been provided so far regarding the changed examination schedule.

The semester examinations at Jamia Milia Islamia University began in December 2019 but the protests caused the university to shut down for an extended vacation on December 16, 2020. The university reopened on January 5, 2020, and the semester exams had begun as per schedule on January 9. Recent protests and student demands, however, have again caused the university to reschedule the exams.
