XLRI Jamshedpur Organises Career Counselling Fair for School Students

A career counselling fair was held at XLRI Jamshedpur for the school students of the city. A massive strength of over 500 students had participated in the fair where they received guidance and counselling from several professionals.

The Xavier Institute of Management of Jamshedpur, which was formerly known as Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), has a youth research wing called Samarthya. Recently, Samarthya organised a career counselling fair for about 500 school students of Jamshedpur which was aimed at helping them in making informed decisions about their career options in future.

The fair hosted professionals and career counsellor who provided all the students with relevant information regarding different career paths. They talked about the requirements and demands of each path and the courses a student must complete in order to make a career in the said field. The counsellors gave the students a fair idea of the job prospects and scope of several career paths.

The students, along with their parents, had a one on one interaction with the career counsellors in which they talked about the subjects of interest of the student. There were professionals from different fields who shared their experiences with all the students and told them about the factors they had considered while deciding the direction they wanted to build their career in.

One of the professionals, Tushar Kabir, spoke to the young minds and told them why he opted for farming as his career. He explained to them how new and developed technology has transformed the concept of farming completely and it is now a well-paying profession.

The counselling fair also gave information to the students about some off-beat career options like photography, sports, forestry, etc. apart from the standardised ones in the field of medicine and engineering. A psychometric test was conducted to gauge the interests of all the students who had come for the career counselling fair at XLRI Jamshedpur.
