While Flipkart, Snapdeal and 28 such startups have been banned from campus placements by the IITs, their counterparts Amazon and Paytm are not only recruiting from the premier institutes but have also got prime placement slots. Other startups like Rivigo Services and CodeNation are also hiring students from IITs.

HR Director for APAC, Amazon, Raj Raghavan said that hiring the best talents in the country will play a key role in the growth of Amazon in India.

Check out the startup hiring trends at IIT Placements 2016:

  • In 2016, Amazon is visiting 17 IITs, starting with IIT Jodhpur, IIT Indore and IIT Bhubaneswar. The Seattle-based e-commerce giant will be hiring more engineers as compared to 2015.
  • Paytm will also be hiring more IITians this year and will double the intake to 50 in 2016. The fast-growing firm has hired students from IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT-BHU Varanasi, IIT Guwahati and IIT Bombay this year.
  • Close to 55 startups have registered for campus placements at IITs in 2016 while only 50 startups registered in 2015. The number of offers has also gone up.
  • FlyNava Technologies, Hike, Smartprix, Buyhatke, OYO Rooms and Clustr are among the startups that are hiring for the first time.
  • Rivigo Services, Paytm, Next Education, Amazon and CodeNation were given prime slots at IIT Madras.
  • OYO Rooms, budget hotel aggregator, has rolled out 12 offers at IIT Kharagpur and IIT BHU.

Startup hiring has not slowed down at IIT campuses and small firms are eager to hire talented students even though each firm hires a small number of students. Students now have a clearer idea and are aware of the insecurity of working with startups but most of them are eager to work with such firms as they are aspiring entrepreneurs and want to gain experience from these companies.

Another reason why students are eager to work with startups is that most of them offer above average packages. Startup hiring has come as a relief to the institutes as the big firms have reduced their intake and number of international offers have also declined at IITs. Global offers have gone down between 18% and 77% at various IITs.

In August 2016, the All-IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) blacklisted 31 recruiters out of which 29 were startups. The step was taken as these firms had either revoked or deferred offers that were made to the students from IITs. Apart from this, 11 startups were issued warning letters.
