In a bid to ease the admissions of students who completed their school education in Tamil medium, the Madras High Court has issued notices regarding reservation of seats in MBBS for such students. The High Court had issued notices to the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) and the State Government as well. The notices directed the respective authorities to create a provision for 5% reservation to students completing schooling in Tamil medium.

The issue has been presided over by Justices M Sathyanarayanan and R Hemalatha, who have directed the respective state authorities to give their reply before 20th February 2020.

The step had been considered after N Murugesan from Dharmapuri filed a PIL petition stating that students who complete their schooling in Tamil medium find it difficult to grab the MBBS seats in medical colleges, even after clearing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET 2020).
