PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the AIIMS Rajkot on 31st December 2020. It will be built at an estimated cost of Rs1,195 crore and is expected to be completed by mid-2022.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Rajkot in Gujarat on 31st December 2020 at 11 AM. The stone-laying foundation ceremony took place in video conferencing.
According to the release issued by the Prime Minsiter's Office, about 201 acres of land has been allotted for the establishment of AIIMS Rajkot. The estimated cost of the new AIIMS will be around Rs. 1,195 crore. It is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
The State Chief Minister, the governor Gujarat, Union Health Minister, and Union Minister of State (MoS) for Health will also be present for the stone-laying foundation ceremony.
The new state-of-the-art 750-bed hospital will also have a 30-bed AYUSH block. AIIMS Rajjot will offer 125 MBBS seats and 60 nursing seats. Admission to the MBBS course at AIIMS Rajkot will be done on the basis of NEET 2021. From 2019, the AIIMS MBBS exam has been scrapped and admissions are taking place on the basis of the NEET exam only. Whereas, admission to Nursing courses will be done on the basis of the AIIMS Nursing entrance exam conducted by AIIMS Delhi. Admission to JIPMER institutes is also done on the basis of the NEET exam only. JIPMER MBBS exam was also scrapped from the 2020 academic year. The objective is to have one national medical entrance exam for MBBS admissions across the country.
