Similarly, the institute has also proposed to increase the intake of students in its Post Graduate Programmes (PGP) and also launch an ePGP course. It has sought capital from the ministry to start the new course.
In the recently concluded IIM directors' meeting in Shillong, the proposal was given to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar. The institute has given a detailed proposal on how student intake can be increased, and expenditure for new buildings required etc.
The director of IIM-A said that they have proposed increasing the capacity of both their PGPX and PGP programmes. Increasing capacity requires capital investment. The institute is open to all possibilities like financial support from the government, to fund the expansion. The institute has asked for government funding, soft loan or other instruments, but HRD ministry is yet to nod the proposal as the investment in increasing the capacity of present IIMs is highly costly for the nation.
Central Government is also planning for the establishment of IIMs in the following states-
- Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh)
- Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh)
- Bodh Gaya (Bihar)
- Nagpur (Maharashtra)
- Amritsar (Punjab).
- Sambalpur (Odisha)
