For the year 2020, NITs, IITs, and IIESTs are likely to conduct 6 counselling years instead of 7 for over 40,000 aspirants. Earlier, there used to be 7 counselling rounds for admission as prescribed by various Centrally Funded Technical Institutes. As per the official notification, the reduction in the total number of counselling sessions has been suggested by IIT Delhi and the same request has been sent to the Joint Implementation Committee to get the approval. IIT Delhi is the organiser for JEE Advanced and the joint panel consists of all the chairmen of Joint Entrance Examinations.
If the suggestion sent by IIT Delhi is accepted by the IITs, the Central Seat Allocation Board which is responsible for IITs, NITs, IIESTs counselling will be held responsible for further proceedings. The reduction in the counselling process will be imparted on all Centrally Funded Technical Institutions as all the institutes have a joint admission process.
Apart from the decision in terms of reduction of counselling round, IIT Delhi has also suggested releasing the AIR for JEE Advanced one week after the exam is conducted. Earlier, the All India Rank for the exam was released after at least 2 weeks.
As per the officials, the reduction of counselling rounds and the early declaration of result will help the institutes to start the new session from early October as the counselling will be wrapped up until September to October.
