Recently, there was a proposal to implement KCET 2021 for B.Sc (non-agriculture) admission as PUC 2 exams have been cancelled in Karnataka. The official notification for KCET 2021 released on June 15, and there was no mention of the B.Sc courses. The entrance exam is only conducted for admission in B.Tech, B.Pharma, B.Sc Agriculture, B.VSc and Naturopathy. The Education Minister of Karnataka has also confirmed that the idea to implement KCET score for B.Sc admission dropped.
The admission to B.Sc courses in Karnataka will be based on the process defined by the Department of College Education. Usually, the admission process is based on merit i.e., marks scored by the candidates in PUC 2. As the 2021 exams have been cancelled, there are questions on how the state government is going to define the merit of a candidate for admission in B.Sc courses. The state government will soon take up the issue and likely to define a process for the same.
The state government is planning to start the academic session for first-year degree courses in October, and the admission process is expected to be wrapped up by September.
Department of Higher Education - Karnataka will soon release the official notification for UG admissions 2021. The department conducts an online centralized admission process for UG courses where the students need to select the colleges through the choice filling. The seat allotment will be based on the candidate’s marks in PUC, choices filled and vacant seat availability.
