Anish Pai and Ashley Mudaliar of Manipal Academy of Higher Education recently bagged the first prize in National Aerospace Conceptual Design Competition, held in Bangalore, conducted by IIT Bombay and Aeronautical Society for designing an unarmed aerial vehicle that runs on solar energy.
NACHeD II started in November 2018 with five rounds in total. There were about 25 teams that participated in the competition with their designs. In the initial four rounds, students had to research the recommended design and prepare a proposal for the same. In the final stage, teams had to prepare their designs and present it to judges. The teams were asked to design an Unarmed High Altitude Platform to carry out coastal operations to observe changes in the coastal habitats and shoreline for scientific studies.

At the final presentation of designs at Bangalore, winners were declared by the judges. Have a look at the list of winners:

The panel of judges consisted of recognized personalities from well-known institutes like DRDO, IISC Bangalore and IITs.
The Faculty member from Manipal Institute of Technology, Dr Mohammad Zuber, claimed that due to the learning and practicals performed by students in college supported them in achieving the first prize.

Anish Pai, a member of the winning team, said that it was not easy to compete with such well-recognized institutes like IITs and NITs. The competition was demanding and challenging at every step and the team had to do a lot of hard work to design High Altitude Long Endurance Aerial Vehicle.
