The University of Melbourne will set up a new academy at Savitribai Phule Pune University. The academy will have combined undergraduate courses in the field of Humanities and Science. This academy will be first of its kind to offer blended courses. The blended courses in Environment Science, Chemistry, Geology and Physics have already been on a rollout from the current year, but their extended programmes will be offered now.
As a part of the collaboration, the faculty from Melbourne University will engage in lectures for these courses and degrees will be awarded by SPPU. However, the degrees will be affiliated and recognised by Melbourne University. The academy will also facilitate student and faculty exchange workshops apart from offering scholarships and fellowships to the students of both varsities.

As per the curriculum, the student intake for UG courses will be twelve students each. Students will take up all the subjects in the first two years and would be able to opt for a specialization in the final year.
They have also introduced a one-year-long honorary programme wherein Indian students will get the necessary skills and knowledge so that they stand equivalent in terms of knowledge and are at par with their international counterparts.

As of now, the courses have been started only in Science faculty, but soon the opportunities will be explored in the area of Arts and Humanities. The Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research, Pune is also a major part of this collaboration.
The SPPU academy in collaboration with Melbourne University will provide students with an opportunity to study the same course with new subjects. This will broaden their horizon and will enhance their skillset.
