NCTE is planning to come up with a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to maintain the quality of teachers. According to the sources, every year around 19 lakh students enroll in teacher training institutes. However, the country needs only 3 lakh trained teachers. Therefore, it is very important to come up with an entrance exam for the quality check so as to select the best candidates.
Dr. Satbir Bedi, Chairperson NCTE informed that revising the entry-level check is important and the Council will focus on equipping teachers with the right skill set so that they are well equipped to teach both in India and abroad.
The National Council for Teacher Education may introduce an all India entrance exam to filter out the best students with a passion for teaching. Just like AICTE, NCTE may also consider shutting down teacher training institutes if the quality is not improved in the next few years.
Also, a one year B.Ed counseling course is on the way which will train the graduates to deal with psychological issues related to school students. It is very important to have at least one counselor in every school. The curriculum of the course will be application-based.

If the JEE exam for B.Ed is introduced it will not improve the quality of teachers but will improve the overall education system in India. The teachers who have a real passion for the job will be selected and will leave a positive mark on the students' life.
