As many as 50 students, out of which 29 are boys and 21 are girls, of various schools belonging to 15 different districts of Telangana state are selected for the summer internship programme from 4 May to 3 June 2018. The internship will be held at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal.
Prof NV Ramana, Director NIT Warangal , addressed the press conference on 3 May 2018 stating that the summer internship programme is an initiative of Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan ( RAA).

The main aim of the programme is to offer school students with a platform for the dual-track approach in subjects such as Science, Mathematics, and Technology (SMT) which will encourage them to have an enduring interest in these subjects. It will also help them to develop and engage their mind in both inside and outside classroom activities.
During the internship programme, students will be taught different techniques to understand complex problems and how to approach a problem-based research topic and they will be mentored by senior faculty members and Ph.D. scholars .

He also said that the NIT Warangal has been chosen by HRD Ministry and its Ministry of Education and Literacy as one of the three mentoring Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in Telangana. The other two mentoring higher education institutions are Central University of Hyderabad (HCU) and Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH).
