The final year students of a few postgraduate courses of the Panjab University (PU) are dealing with a peculiar issue. The university’s final year students of some postgraduate programmes have not received their results and are facing problems because they need their results to apply for jobs or for higher studies. The admission season is in its full swing throughout the country but these students cannot apply anywhere until they get their graduation results.
Navjeet Kaur, a student belonging to the Sociology Department who appeared for her final semester exams told that she has applied for non-teaching vacancies in private colleges but her application is not being accepted by the college authorities as she does not have the detailed mark sheet and mark sheet of the final semester.

Another student from the Department of Sociology said that despite clearing the UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) and applying for a post at S D College , the student was not permitted to sit for the interview as the entire result of her masters is not yet available. Nishant, a student from the Mass Communication Department, also sat for his final semester exams. He said that he is suffering the delay of results because there was a delay in his final semester exams as well as in the result of his re-evaluation of the third semester. He aims to apply for a diploma course in Canada for the intake in September for which he has to get a visa. The visa process asks for transcripts that have to be sent by the university but this works only if the final result has been declared. Nishant said that a confidential mark sheet is of no use to him and that his entire academic year has suffered due to this.
Several other students are suffering because of the university’s delay in releasing the results. Students cannot get jobs, get admission in courses for higher studies, move abroad, etc. without their final results.

The Controller of Examination of Panjab University, Parvinder Singh said that the authorities of the university are doing their best to quicken the process of declaring results as soon as possible. He said that all the results cannot be released in one day and that the results of only 20 exams are left, 180 exams have been declared.
The delay in results will affect the students both academically and professionally as they will not be able to apply for higher studies or jobs in time.
