Aadhaar Not Mandatory for NEET UG 2018: Supreme Court

Aadhaar Not Mandatory for NEET UG 2018: Supreme Court

On March 07, 2018, the Supreme Court of India directed Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to roll back the compulsory Aadhaar rule to register for NEET exam. A five-judge Constitution bench, chaired by Justice Dipak Mishra issued this order while referring the previous order. The bench pointed that the government had undertaken that it would not insist on compulsory Aadhaar identification until the apex court takes a call on petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar card.

The CBSE circular on compulsory Aadhaar rule to enrol for NEET was challenged by a Gujarat resident. He questioned the constitutional validity of Aadhaar in his petition to Supreme Court.

Apart from Aadhaar, voter-id, passport, driving license or bank account number will also act as the means of identification.

The candidates who had already registered for NEET by entering their Aadhaar number need not panic, as Aadhaar is also one of the sources of personal identification.

NEET-UG 2018 application process will conclude on Friday, March 09, 2018. Candidates who have not yet registered for NEET must complete the application by tomorrow.
