IIT Delhi has inaugurated the Office of Career Services as its new placement cell. The OCS will be conducting the final placement for the 2019 placement drive at IIT Delhi. It is expected to witness over 400 companies to visit the campus for student recruitment.
With the upcoming 2019 placement drive at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), the institute has rebranded the placement cell under the new alias of Office of Career Services (OCS). The Office had been inaugurated on Monday, 18th November 2019 by the Director of IIT Delhi, Prof V Ramgopal Rao.
As per an official release from the Institute, the IIT Delhi Placements 2019 is set to begin from 1st December 2019 and will be conducted by the Office of Career Services. Students from the various departments at the undergraduate, postgraduate as well as PhD degrees will be taking part in the IIT Delhi placement drive 2019.
One of the duties that have been assigned to the Office of Career Services is to assign IIT Delhi’s alumni to offer the current batch of IIT Delhi students with career counselling services. The OCS will be working with the alumni to provide the students training in making informed career choices and offer workshops in writing and soft skills, state Prof V Ramgopal Rao.
It is expected to witness over 400 organisations, both from India and Internationally, will be visiting the campus for the placement drive. The students will be offered over 600 different job profiles in core engineering fields such as chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering in this year’s placement drive. This will further expand the opportunities and choices in the type of job offers available to them.
The IIT Delhi Director, Prof Rao, stated that the conventional placement cells in IITs have been always focused on providing the students with a job. He stated that IIT Delhi aims to make the cells be more than that. He added that the Office Career Services (OCS) has been designed to conduct activities throughout the year so as to not only provide better and variety of career opportunities, but also ensure career counselling services as well as organising seminars and conferences to uncover the different job opportunities.
Prof Rao further added that the OCS will also focus on Resume Preparation and other facets in the interview process of a placement drive.
Additionally, IIT Delhi has successfully completed its summer training for the year 2019. At the IIT Delhi summer training 2019, nearly 400 students had been offered internship opportunities. Moreover, 160 students have already received pre-placement offers, out which, 110 students have already accepted the offers, as per a statement from IIT Delhi. Over 300 students have already been placed for the summer training programme, which is scheduled to be held in the year 2020.
The Head of Office of Career Services, Prof S Dharmaraja, stated that the Institute is geared up for this year’s placement drive and set new records. They expect to see a good placement record this year and see more companies visit, despite the deterioration in the economic growth of the country.

IIT Delhi expects to see job profiles in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Decision Analytics and Stochastic Modelling as the growing sectors, which will result in Industry 4.0.

There is also a focus on the employment of Ph.D. degree holders for this year’s placement drives. Companies and recruiters from different disciplines have already registered different highly specialized job profiles for people with Ph.D. degrees.
