If it is not an exaggeration then gone are the days when blue chip companies, start-ups, investment firms ruled the roast at the placements of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Now IIT-B is witnessing the academic institutes queuing up for recruitment of teaching talent in the first phase of placement session of 2016.

The institute has seen a three-fold increase in the number of academic institutes lined up for visiting the campus this December 2016. Contrary to last year, where 7 institutes signed up to recruit students. However, this year, 20 institutes have already registered for the recruitment process. Of these institutes registered, most of them are Indian universities - both deemed and private universities.
An official of the placement cell of the institute said that this year around 10% of their total recruiters are academic institutes who are offering plenty options to their doctoral candidates.
When it comes to IIT-Kanpur, around 15 academic institutes have registered to pick up faculty among PhD graduates and masters students. Some of the leading institutes already registered are -
- Amrita University
- Thapar University
- Sandip University Nasik
- Rao IIT Academy
- SR Patel Engineering College
- Dehradun Institute of Technology
Usually, these academic institutes visit the campus after December every year. An official of Training and Placement Cell at IIT-Roorkee said that six universities/ institutes have already been registered so far for the current. In 2015, 12 academic universities/ institutes offered 76 jobs.

What promotes these Universities and institutes to go IITs for the recruitment of their faculties?
Chairman of Sandip University, Sandip Jha said that they want to design their engineering school on the same lines as that of the IITs. And to materialise that, they need the best possible faculty in the country. For that, they land up at IITs and the NITs and are willing to pay as per UGC norms.
On the other hand, IITs are yet to see too many international campuses travelling to pick freshers. In 2009, Saudi Arabia-based Alfaisal University which had landed up at several IITs offered annual packages of approximately INR 17 lakh. Texas A&M University, that wanted recruits for its Qatar campus also landed up in IIT-Madras for a talent hunt.
But officials of most the placement cells of IITs opine that the clear picture is yet to come. Once the placement session starts, academic institutes hire all the way until May - June.
