IITs and IISc Rise in QS World Rankings 2019

  • QS World University Rankings 2019 have been released and IITs have improved their ranks in this year’s list.
  • IIT Bombay has emerged as the top Indian university in the QS world rankings, while MIT Massachusetts secured first place globally.

IITsandIISc Bangalorehave improved their positions in the QS world rankings 2019. IIT Bombay has emerged as the top institute in India in theQS World University Rankings 2019. It has retained itself within the QS top 200 ranks along with IISc Bangalore and IIT Delhi. Although IIT Delhi remained at the same position,IIT Bombayand IISc have moved up the ladder and have outperformedIIT Delhi.

The number of Indian universities listed in the QS World University Rankings 2019 has also increased from 20 in 2018 to 24 in 2019 rank list.QS Quacquarelli Symondsreleases a list of top 1000 global universities every year and this is the 15th edition of the list released by theglobal higher education analysts. The first position in theQS World Rankingshas been retained by theMassachusetts Institute of Technologyfor the seventh time in a row. Performance of Indian universities has certainly improved this year as they have risen on QS’s reputation indicator as well asemployer reputation.

7 of the Indian universities have improved their rank, 5 of them have been featured for the first time and only 3 universities have dropped in ranks.

R Subrahmanyam, Secretary of Higher Education, MHRD, said that Indian universities are performing well on a global scale due to the relentless effort of the Indian Government to improve ranks of institutes with initiatives likeNIRF Rankings,Institutes of Eminence, etc.
