Candidates with this rank can take admission in many NITs such as National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (Civil Engineering), National Institute of Technology Agartala (Production Engineering), National Institute of Technology, Srinagar (Civil Engineering), etc. Candidates with rank around 2,70,000 cannot get admission in any IIITs but still there are a lot of good lower-ranked NITs and top private B.Tech colleges in India where students can get admission into their desired engineering stream.

In the home state quota, OBC candidates may find a way in to less competitive branches in less competitive NITs whereas, general category candidates will be unlikely to secure place in NIT through this percentile. However, top branches of NITs are not available for SC/ ST candidates but they have more chances of getting into reputed NITs with less competitive branches. NIT Agartala, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Srinagar, NIT Mizoram and NIT Sikkim also accept candidates with 82–83 percentile.
