Considering its poor performance in the DUSU Polls in 2015, Student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party – Chhatra Yuva Sanghrash Samiti has withdrawn its candidature for the polls 2016. The party was not able to win even a single seat in elections 2015. Candidates were given the timeframe till Saturday noon, September 3 to withdraw their nominations.

The final list of candidates for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) polls has been prepared and the number of female candidates has increased considerably. Four out of the seven presidential candidates are women. Also, three out of five candidates running for the vice-president’s post are women.

Even popular groups like Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students’ Union (NSUI) have one woman candidate each. On the other hand, All India Students’ Association (AISA) has put forward three women candidates.

ABVP has been winning all four seats i.e. of the president, vice-president, secretary, and joint secretary from the past two years. This year’s presidential candidate from ABVP is Amit Tanwar, MA Hindi, first year, PGDAV College. Amit has been actively associated with ABVP from last four years.

Nikhil Yadav, LLB student, first year, will be representing NSUI in the presidential race whereas AISA’s presidential candidate is a law student as well, Kawalpreet Kaur.

DUSU elections will be conducted on September 9 basis which all the president, vice-president and other posts will be filled.
