2. What is the Haematocrit Value? The Haematocrit (Hct) value represents the proportion of red blood cells in the total blood volume, expressed as a percentage. It signifies the ratio of red blood cell volume to total blood volume. Normally, the Haematocrit value ranges from 40-54% in males and 37-48% in females.
3. Mention any two substances secreted by mast cells and their functions. Two substances secreted by mast cells are:
a. Histamine: It causes blood vessels to dilate, leading to increased permeability and smooth muscle contraction, resulting in allergic symptoms such as itching, swelling, and increased mucus production.

b. Heparin: It acts as an anticoagulant, preventing blood clotting and promoting blood flow, which helps to prevent excessive clotting during inflammation.
4. Mention the animals that exhibited a "tube-within-a-tube" organisation for the first time. Name their body cavity. The animals that exhibited a "tube-within-a-tube" organization for the first time are Annelids (segmented worms), such as earthworms. Their body cavity is called a "true coelom" or "schizocoelom".
5. What is botryoidal tissue? Botryoidal tissue refers to a type of tissue that resembles a cluster of grapes. It is characteristic of the placenta in mammals, particularly in the early stages of development.
6. What are 'Jacobson's organs? What is their function? Jacobson's organs, also known as vomeronasal organs (VNOs), are specialized sensory organs found in many animals, including mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Their function is to detect pheromones, which are chemical signals that convey information about reproductive status, dominance, and other social behaviors.
7. What is kinety? Kinety refers to a group of cilia (hair-like structures) that beat in a coordinated manner to create a current or movement in a specific direction, typically found in ciliates and other protists.
