Campus Hiring Started at Cochin University of Science and Technology.

<p>Major IT companies have already started recruiting from campuses and placement officers foresee the numbers going up compared to the last year at Cochin University of Science and Technology Cusat.

TCS offered jobs to about 150 students last year. &ldquo;It has now gone up to 201. Hiring began on a positive note since it took off in the first week of September,&rdquo; said Premkumar C.V., faculty in-charge, Training and Placement Cell, Cusat.

Students hope that the entry-level salary may also go up this season, especially in view of the increasing offers being made by e-commerce companies through campus placements.

An official from the University said, &ldquo;The response is quite well this year. Campus hiring seems to have taken off on an upward scale going by feedback from stakeholders. Companies are also giving good offers to students this time. The openings are also not restricted to software development alone, but includes IT infrastructure and engineering applications.&rdquo;

&ldquo;Companies are also recruiting talents from the rural areas. &ldquo;The total job offers at Cucek from various companies was only 55 last year. But TCS itself has offered jobs to 56 students this time. Eight other students had received offers from leading companies,&rdquo; said Principal of Cochin University College of Engineering in Pulinkunnu near Cherthala.

The University officials are expecting more companies to be visiting campuses in the city and the suburbs in the coming days for recruitment. &ldquo;We expect about 60 firms to participate in the campus placement drive to be held here on September 26. Students from various colleges can attend,&rdquo; said Principal of U.C. College, Aluva.

Faculty members in-charge of placement cell at Model Engineering College under IHRD in Thrikkakara said that early indicators pointed towards a prospective placement season ahead. Nearly five to six prominent companies have already visited their campus.
