CBSE Bags Digital India Award in Exemplary Online Services Category
The CBSE takes the Exemplary Online Service Award at Digital India Awards. The IT team of the CBSE has worked on different kinds of digital initiatives that have made them eligible for the award this year.
On Friday, 22nd February 2019, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) received the honour of winning the Digital India Award. The award was given by Ravi Shankar Prasad - Union Minister of Law and Justice.
The CBSE has taken various initiatives to digitalise its processes, and one of the digital initiatives undertaken by the CBSE was the 'Parinam Manjusha'. The digital initiative is CBSE’s answer to digitising the important documents of the people and store it in the digital form. The initiative will help the people from not having to carry the original documents along with their copies to the various places. The documents that are stored in one of the sub-categories of the DigiLocker are legally valid as Controller of Examinations in CBSE has his signature digitally incorporated in the app.
The DigiLocker was introduced by the government in the early days of 2015 which has till now seen immense participation from a number of people in various states. At present, the top three states with the largest number of users of the app are Madhya Pradesh with more than 24,000 people, Uttar Pradesh with 17,000+ and 13000+ people in Gujarat.

The Exemplary Online Service, as stated by the organisers of the event is awarded to those service based on ICT, of the government which has shown focus on the citizen, its reach, innovation and scope. Some of the factors that need to be kept in mind while deciding the winner are that the service should have contributed to the efficiency in the government process as well as productivity, and conveying transparency and accountability.

There are many other awards that are given to the various other government services and institutions as well as departments which can be seen as a way to encourage the departments to make certain amendments to their working processes.
