About NEET Cutoff 2024

NEET 2024 Cutoff Marks for the unreserved and EWS category are expected to range from 720 to 130 and for the reserved category, from 122 to 105. The exact cutoff marks will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after the release of NEET result. If aspirants score above or equal to the cutoff, they will be eligible to participate in the NEET Counselling 2024.

As per previous year's trends, the cutoff marks for NEET 2024 will be released in 2nd or 3rd week of June 2024 along with result PDF. The upcoming NEET exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 5, 2024 and its result will be out in June.

NEET cutoff 2024 is of 2 types: NEET Qualifying Cutoff and NEET Admission Cutoff. The qualifying cutoff is referred to as the minimum mark needed for a candidate to pass the medical entrance exam. In each counselling round conducted by MCC, the cutoff ranks are disclosed in the seat allotment list. These are the last ranks at which admission into Medical/Dental colleges is granted under the NEET UG 2024 Exam

How Many Marks Are Required to Qualify NEET UG 2024 Exam?

The NEET Cutoff 2024 marks required for clearance can vary each year due to different factors. For the NEET UG Exam 2024, it is expected that general category candidates will need a minimum of 360 marks (50% of 720), while reserved and PwD category candidates will require at least 324 marks (45% of 720).

According to the guidelines set by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the marking scheme for the NEET 2024 exam is as follows: +4 marks for each correct answer and a deduction of -1 mark for each incorrect answer. To estimate their expected score, students can subtract the number of incorrect answers from the number of correct answers and multiply the result by one.

By understanding the marking scheme and the NEET Cutoff 2024 requirements, candidates can better assess their expected scores and evaluate their performance in the NEET UG Exam 2024.

How is NEET Cutoff 2024 Determined?

The determination of NEET 2024 cutoff scores for MBBS/ BDS admissions in depend on many factors such as the number of students who took the NEET 2024 test, the total number of seats available , and the difficulty level of the exam.

If multiple aspirants achieve the same rank, NEET 2024 cutoff qualifying scores is used to determine who qualifies. If there’s a tie, the following steps are taken in order of preference to break the tie: firstly, students with the higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology) are given priority followed by chemistry and physics. If the tie persists, students with less number of negative marks are given preference. Finally, if the tie still exists, the candidate who attempted less number incorrect and correct answers ration in biology are given preference followed by chemistry and physics. 

The age criterion was a part of the tie breaking criteria which has been cancelled this year for NEET UG 2024. Students can check the NEET last rank round-wise data to determine the overall admission cutoff.

How NEET UG 2024 Cutoff is Calculated?

In order to calculate NEET UG 2024 Cutoff, candidates must know their NEET scores and percentile. While the qualifying NEET Cutoff percentile remains the same every year (until any official announcement of changes to be included), NEET Cutoff marks vary from one year to the next. The NEET UG 2024 cutoff is calculated by taking various factors into account, mainly:

  • The total number of candidates appearing in the NEET UG exam
  • The maximum marks obtained by them, and
  • The difficulty level of the NEET UG examination

To calculate NEET UG 2024 Cutoff, refer to the example mentioned below: 

If a candidate secures a total of 198 marks in the Physics section, a total of 200 marks in the Chemistry section, and a total of 200 marks in the Biology section in NEET exam, his/her calculated NEET UG 2024 Cutoff will be - (198/4+200/4+200 /2) = (49.5+50+100) = 199.50.

Similarly, NEET UG 2024 Cutoff percentile is based on the marks secured in the medical entrance exam. A candidate belonging from the General Category must secure close to 50th percentile or more, in order to qualify the NEET 2024 exam. In case of OBC/SC/ST, the NEET UG Cutoff percentile, as specified by the NTA, is 40th percentile. 

NEET 2024 Percentile Calculation Method

  • NEET percentile can also be calculated by following simple steps. This will help candidates know what their true percentile is.
  • The NEET percentile 2024 can be calculated by the following these steps:
  • If a candidate has scored a Rank of 50 in NEET exam and the total number of candidates who appeared in the test are 6,00,000.
  • NEET 2024 percentile will be: [600000-50)/600000] * 100 = 99.99 percentile
  • One must note that general category students need at least 50 percentile to be eligible for admission in Medical/ Dental institutes.

Factors determining NEET Cutoff 2024

The competition level in NEET 2024 exams is always tough. Thus, every year, the NEET cutoff varies as there are many factors affecting the decisions. The following are some of the factors that determine the NEET 2024 cut-off:

NEET 2024 Cutoff: Tie-breaking Process

The below-mentioned steps in order of preference will be considered to break the tie of the NEET 2024 cutoff marks. 

  1. Higher marks in Biology: Candidates who have scored higher scores/percentile in Biology (Zoology and Botany) will be preferred first for the NEET merit list when the NEET 2024 cutoff is released.

  2. Higher marks in Chemistry: If the tie still persists, then the higher marks/percentile of the aspirant in Chemistry will be taken into consideration.

  3. Higher marks in Physics: In case the tie doesn’t break, students who secure higher marks in physics will be given preference.

  4. Number of incorrect answers: If the tie is still not resolved, then the candidates with more correct attempted answers and less incurred answers will be allotted a better rank.

  5. Fewer wrong attempts in Biology: Students attempting less wrong answers in Biology paper will be given a better rank.

  6. Fewer wrong attempts in Chemistry: Candidates securing lower marks in Chemistry paper are allotted better marks.

  7. Fewer wrong attempts in Physics: Aspirants gaining fewer marks in Physics paper are given better rank.

NEET 2024 Counselling and Seat Allotment

Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) will conduct NEET Counseling 2024 for 15% All India Quota seats. The remaining 85 percent state quota seats will be managed by competent and relevant state authorities. NEET Seat Allotment 2024

NEET 2024 seat allotment round results are released as and when counselling rounds are held. It is published in an online format on the main website of MCC. NEET 2024 seat allotment for different states is published by respective state-level authorities. Once a seat is allotted, candidates can either accept or reject the seat. Those who accept the seat have to visit the institute offline and confirm their admission within the given timeline.

NEET Seat Allotment 2024: Free Exit and Exit with Forfeiture

Once students are allotted seats, they can choose either to accept or decline the seat. More relevant options are explored below for your reference.

Free Exit (only for round 1) - A student has does’t report to the allotted institute in round 1 will not be disqualified. Their security deposit will remain safe and they will be eligible for further rounds.

Exit with forfeiture - If an aspirant is offered a seat in round 2 but do not wish to take the seat, they have the option to exit the counselling rounds with forfeiture. In this case, the student will lose the security amount deposit.

Students joining the allotted second round seat will not be deemed eligible to resign/ surrender their seats. These candidates will also not be permitted to participate in any state counselling round either
