CBSE Introduces Digital Lockers, Saves 50,000 Trees in 6 Months
CBSE has introduced digital lockers for class 10th and Class 12 board students which will have all the digital signed mark sheets, and passing certificates. Till now, CBSE has managed to save 50,000 trees and 30 crore sheets.
CBSE has gone digital with the board exam mark sheets in order to reduce paper use and contribute toward saving the environment and working towards sustainable development. The board has opened over 80 lakh digital lockers for Class 10th and Class 12th board students. Through the CBSE digital lockers, the students were able to access their signed mark sheets, passing certificates and migration certificates.
All the certificates were made available to the students digitally with PKI based QR codes on the same day as the release of board results which made it easier for the students to apply for admission into colleges and for higher secondary education.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) already follows the same procedure of digitally signed certificate and are made available to students through Digital Lockers to its students.
Through the initiative of digital lockers, CBSE has managed to save over 50,000 trees and around 30 crore sheets. This has also helped in saving around 100 crore rupees which were earlier used in printing and producing paper for generating certificates by the board.

The digital system has led to more transparency in the system which is beneficial for the students as well as the system. Apart from this, the board has made the issuing of admit card, notices and process for conducting exam online.
