The classes at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET) resumed again after the college had remained closed several days following the death of a student during Onam celebration.
The college had suspended 12 students following the incident.
Thasni Basheer, the civil engineering student from Malappuram, had died after she was hit by a jeep. A section of the students had drove a jeep defying a ban on vehicle entry inside the college premises.
“The entry of vehicles inside the campus will be strictly regulated and surveillance stepped up. The college authorities are also planning to initiate a discussion with the district collector regarding removal of encroachments around the campus that had prevented the construction of a compound wall,” said the Principal of the college to media.
"We have finalized a set of regulations and it would be implemented strictly. CCTVs are already functional on the campus and more such facilities will be introduced. Right now there been opposition from some people who have encroached college property. We will seek the help of the district administration to overcome the hurdle," the principal added further.
After the incident the college authorities have deiced to introduce several rules and regulations as to ensure peaceful academic environment in the campus. The college authorities have also decided to organize more counselling sessions for students.
Police had arrested one student Baiju K Balakrishnan and searching for seven more students who were involved in the accident.
