The Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) set the CLAT 2023 exam pattern. As per the paper pattern of the CLAT 2023 exam, the exam will be conducted in offline mode. The type of questions will be objective-based. The total duration of time of the CLAT 2023 exam will be 120 minutes. The candidates have to answer a total of 150 questions with 200 marks. The authority will schedule the CLAT exam 2023 on December 23, 2022 .

  • For every correct answer: +1
  • For every incorrect answer: -0.25
  • Unattempted answer: No deduction will be there

CLAT 2023 Exam Pattern Analysis

Check the detailed subject-wise exam pattern analysis in the following section.

  • English: The candidates will have to write comprehension passages of 450 words each, from contemporary or historically significant, fiction and non-fiction writing
  • Logical Reasoning: This section will comprise a series of short passages of around 300 words each. The candidates can identify the patterns, logic and arguments and answer accordingly
  • Quantitative Techniques: In this section, the candidates will comprise the set of questions from graphs, propositions, pictorial, diagrammatic representations of numerical information, textual representations etc
  • Legal Reasoning: The candidates will have to read passages of approx 450 words each. The passages will be related to the fact situations or scenarios including legal matters, public policy questions or the moral philosophical enquiries
  • Current Affairs including the General Knowledge: Here, in this section, the candidates will have to answer the questions related to passages of up to 450 words. The passages will be derived from journalistic sources, news and other non-fiction writing

What is the exam analysis of CLAT 2023?

The exam analysis of the CLAT 2023 is as follows: The CLAT 2023 paper was extensive. The estimated average number of successful attempts can be around 80-82. According to a few students, the questions' difficulty level was moderate. The GK component of the exam was challenging. The logical component was moderately difficult. The legal section of the CLAT 2023 was straightforward. Overall the paper was long and time consuming particularly the English section which required much reading. The CLAT 2023 was as predicted, with no unexpected surprises. More students struggled with GK and Current Affairs questions. The vocabulary in the English portion was difficult but the comprehensive questions were simple.

What is the marking scheme for the CLAT 2023?

The marking scheme for the CLAT 2023 is given below:  +1 is awarded for every correct answer. -0.25 is awarded for every incorrect answer. 0 marks for every unattempted question.  

What is the CLAT 2023 exam pattern?

The exam pattern of the CLAT 2023 is as follows:  Passage-based questions: Except for the Quantitative Technique section, the remainder of the four sections will include passage-based questions. The English, Current Affairs, and Logical Reasoning sections will include 450-word passages. The Logical Reasoning section will have short passages of about 350 words. Each passage will be followed by a series of questions.  Quantitative Techniques section: The section will include short sets of facts, propositions, graphs, pictorial representation, etc. The candidate has to derive answers from such passages, representations, etc. Total questions and marks: The CLAT UG exam will contain 150 multiple-choice questions; each question will carry 1 mark. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for an incorrect answer. Exam difficulty level: The difficulty of CLAT exam 2022 will be of Class 12. Questions asked in Quantitative Techniques are of Class 10 difficulty level. Skills to be evaluated: The CLAT UG question paper will test the comprehension and reasoning skills of candidates. So, rote learning won't cut the ice.
