The English section in the CLAT 2026 exam is categorised into four main parts, namely, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar and Error Detection. The most important topics in this section are English Comprehension, Subject-Verb Agreement, Nouns and Pronouns, Adjectives and Determinants, Vocabulary, Synonyms and Antonyms, Sentence Completion and Correction, etc. The total weightage of CLAT 2026 English in the overall exam is 20%.

The comprehension passage is likely to have around 450 words, with a weightage of 22 - 28 questions out of 120 questions. The vocabulary and grammar sections will mostly focus on a student’s grip of the language and the basics of tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, articles, and conjunctions. On the other hand, error detection will test the student’s ability to identify errors in a sentence, frame the sentences correctly, and identify the correct usage of punctuation marks.
