Delhi University’s SOL Targets Non Local Students

Students from outside Delhi can now enrol for courses offered by SOL. The courses will be available from the session 2019-2020. The primary motto of the university is to increase the gross enrollment ratio (GER) to 30%. Currently, the ratio of enrollment in the open learning courses offered by DU revolves around 24%.
This step will also help in fulfilling the pivotal motto of education which is to build bridges and initiate the exchange and amalgamation of thoughts. Many a time it has been seen that students from different parts of the country travel to the national capital with the aim of pursuing their preferred course. To avoid such cumbersome circumstance the Delhi University has decided to reach up to the students. It has been found out that currently, the majority of the students opting for these open schooling courses are from Delhi itself. The courses being introduced online will nullify the barrier of distance. Therefore, it is being considered to be a major step in the field of education.
CS Dubey, Director of DU School of Open Learning said that the students enrolling in the courses offered by SOL come from Delhi. He also spoke about how the online courses will break geographical barriers faced by the students. The programmes offered under this initiative will be immense help for the students, interested people who want to pursue their academic career after a break and working professionals. The authority is also thinking to digitise the examinations. Under such circumstances, the whole process might switch to Computer-Based Tests (CBT).
SOL will be offering five major online undergraduate courses which include B.Com, B.Com (honours), BA Programme, BA (Honours) Political Science and BA (honours) English. As per the official notification of the UGC in July 2018 initiated the process of online courses to be offered by the University of Delhi. The authority is to follow “SWAYAM’s” four-quadrant approach which provides the students with the opportunity to avail access to e-content, e-tutorial, discussion forums and assessments.

Other than this, students will also be provided with study materials which can be referred to by them. The work of making e-textbooks for the students is also underway.
