The Supreme Court of India has announced its judgement regarding the GATE 2022 postponement a few minutes ago today. A bench comprising the CJI (Chief Justice of India) N V Ramana has read out the decision against the petition filed by Advocate Pallav Mongia on behalf of the students. The Supreme Court of India has announced a verdict in favour of IIT Kharagpur which means the GATE 2022 exam will be conducted as per the latest schedule, i.e on 5, 6, 12 and 13 February. Finally, after more than a month, clarity regarding whether or not this year's GATE exam will be conducted is available to the candidates and exam authorities.

Students were demanding the postponement of this year’s GATE exam due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the country. They have been campaigning on various social media platforms like Twitter against IIT Kharagpur’s decision to conduct the GATE 2022 exams on the 05th, 06th, 12th and 13th February. The petition seeking postponement of the GATE 2022 exam was filed on 02nd February and the SC agreed to hear the matter on an urgent basis.

Highlights of SC Hearing on GATE 2022 Postponement

The highlights of the SC decision to not postpone GATE 2022 have been provided in this section -

01:00 PM - There will never be a completely clear scenario in all states. Consider the legality of courts venturing into these conflicts. How do we toy with the careers of all students who have been studying just because some states have issues? argues the Supreme Court while hearing the petition.

Noon - The Bench stated that it is a policy agenda, for which government officials must make a decision

11:30 AM - According to sources, a bench comprised of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant, and Vikram Nath stated that taking any judgement on the petitions 48 hours before the exam's start will create doubt
