The Indian Government has given a second chance to those students who missed taking admission to the undergraduate courses at the University of Mumbai. The Government has given approval to 24 new colleges. Out of these 24 colleges, 10 are law colleges.

The government has finally approved of 61 colleges across the state of Maharashtra.

With this approval, comes a good news for the students as now they will be able to apply for more than 2000 seats under MU alone. Though, this may not be a good sign for the university as the university is facing the problem of lack of faculty.

From the year 1985, number of colleges affiliated to the university has increased to more than 750. On the other hand, number of positions approved for non-teaching employees is only eight since then as earlier there were 1,311 non-teaching employees and now there are 1,319.

According to an official from the Bombay University, increasing the number of colleges will help more students to get admission to their desired streams but the lack of infrastructure and faculty might hinder the quality of education.

Despite the approval by the state to commence the classes from this academic year, some of the science and commerce stream colleges will not be able to do so. The colleges have to take a no-objection certificate from the joint director of higher education before applying for affiliation with the MU.

Whereas this is not the case for law colleges as the admission process for law colleges have not yet begun.
