Govt to Invest in R&D, Innovation and Start-up Ecosystem: PM Modi

The Government of India has given green signals for the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems. The total investment for the respective mission will be around Rs. 3,600 crores. The mission will cover R&D, human resource and skills, innovation, industry and international collaborations, start-up ecosystem and others.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi confirmed about the same during the inaugural address of the 106th Indian Science Congress. According to him, the strength of the country lies in connecting the science, technology and innovation.

He further said that the research work and projects of Indian Scientists are transforming Indian science and technology. According to PM Modi, research and development (R&D) are built on the strong foundation of central varsities, IITs, IISERs, national laboratories etc.

PM Modi also talked about the Technology and Innovation Advisory Council. The council will work towards the development of appropriate science and technology interventions, form new international collaborations in the field of R&D and also implement multi-stakeholder policy initiatives, he added.

Meanwhile, he also talked about the Prime Ministers Research Fellowship Scheme. Under this scheme, meritorious students will get direct admission toPh.D.D programmes in some of the best institutes of the country such as IIT, IISc and others. The main objective of the scheme is to promote quality research work and will also address the problem of shortage of faculty in the higher educational institutions.
