Govt to Expedite the Work of both the Jammu and the Kashmir AIIMS
The office of PMO has ordered the health ministry to speed up the work of both the AIIMS at Jammu as well as Kashmir.
The office of PMO has ordered the health ministry to speed up the work of both the AIIMS in Jammu as well as Kashmir. Both the AIIMS are yet to be formally approved by the Union Cabinet. The ministry has directed Central Public Work Department to complete the detailed project report within one month, though in normal circumstances it takes the customary three months.

The Kashmir AIIMS is coming in Awantipora, Pulwama while the Jammu AIIMS in Vijaypur, Samba. While giving the information, an official of the ministry said that they are finalising the tender within three months. After that they will decide project investment, filling the site and work on the construction of boundary wall etc.
The state government has allotted land measuring 258 acres at Vijaypur in Jammu and 221 acres at Awantipora in Kashmir. The Government hopes that the Kashmir AIIMS would be a 'balm' for the ongoing unrest in the Valley. Jammu region had been in unrest following the decision of the government to build an AIIMS in the Valley while depriving the Hindu-majority areas.
To pacify the agitators finally the government decided to set up two institutes in the state. AIIMS is also coming in three other states.

The other AIIMS in the pipeline are-
- Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh
- Jalah in Assam
- Bathinda in Punjab
The cost of the Assam AIIMS is yet to be finalized. The institute is coming at Jalah in Kamrup district and will be approved by the Union Cabinet by next month. The Bhatinda AIIMS will cost Rs 925 crore and will be completed by June 2020, whereas the Gorakhpur AIIMS will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1011 crore and will be completed by March 2020.
In view of the ensuing assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, the construction of the AIIMS in the state has got much significance. The ministry has asked the official to put extra efforts on the construction of the Gorakhpur AIIMS.
