Considering the objections raised by subject experts on tougher NEET questions in regional language question papers, HRD Ministry sought an explanation from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on the issue. Earlier, a section of subject experts and students from West Bengal complained to the higher authorities that the questions in Bengali medium NEET question paper were tougher than English and Hindi medium question papers.

CBSE conducted NEET-UG 2017 examination on May 7, 2017. CBSE claimed that the examination was held in a smooth manner, and no issues were reported. However, CBSE did not give uniform question paper for all the mediums. The questions in the regional language question papers were different from English and Hindi medium questions. Besides West Bengal, students who took the examination in the Gujarati medium also faced the similar issue.

Apart from students and subject experts, Sankalp Charitable Trust also wrote to HRD Ministry regarding the irregularities in the NEET examination.

Students from Telangana also faced the same issue. Students who were supposed to receive Telugu medium question paper received English and Hindi medium question papers. The incident took place at an examination centre in Warangal. The authorities of the examination centre asked the students to continue their examination in English or Hindi medium. Students faced difficulty in understanding the questions and did not do well in the examination.
