The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is organizing its 46th convocation today. As a record, highest number of Ph.D. degrees will be awarded to the students. A total of 1,880 students will be receiving their undergraduate, post-graduate and Ph.D. degrees.
First session between 9.45 am to 12.00 noon was conducted in the seminar hall of IIT Delhi. Raghuram Rajan, Reserve Bank chief is the chief guest of the ceremony.
Last year around 178 students received the Ph.D. degrees, whereas this year, the number has increased quite larger to 889. The number has also increased from 714 last year in 2014 to 770 this year.
The curriculum for post-graduate course has also been restructured by the institute after a decade, which now includes a variety of elective courses. As a part of the second reform, students will have to pick one segment of "defined syllabus" on which they will be tested but without any delivery.
The IIT-D's master-plan has also added new hostels, a stadium, two major academic blocks and a science park on campus to promote startups. The estimated cost of Rs. 400 crore is planned at its campuses at Hauz Khas, Sonepat and Jhajjar.
