IIT Gandhinagar Students Come Forward to Help the Poor Get Admission Under RTE
A voluntary team of B.Tech students from IIT Gandhinagar have been helping the poor parents of students to get enrolled in schools under the Right to Education (RTE).
A voluntary team of B.Tech students from IIT Gandhinagar has been helping the parents of children hailing from the marginal classes to get enrolled in schools under the Right to Education (RTE). Additionally, they have also been spreading awareness about RTE and helping the parents in filling up the application form online.
Sandeep Pandey, a professor at IIT-Gn said that many people who are eligible for RTE do not have access to computers. Therefore, the initiative has been taken up to support them.

In a press release, the institute stated that under the section 12 (1) (C) of RTE Act, it mandates that 25% of the seats in unaided private schools from class 1 have to be reserved for children hailing from underprivileged sections of the society, education costs of which have to be borne by the school itself.
To apply for these seats, parents and guardians of the students have to fill up the application form either online or offline.
B.Tech students from the IIT-Gn have been helping the poor students in filling up the form online, making them aware of the schemes and at the same them guiding them through the process.

Jaldhir Trivedi, a B.Tech student from the institute said that anybody who is interested in applying for RTE can contact them. They will come forward to offer services such as assistance in filling up the application form online. All that the parents will be required to do is to keep ready necessary documents for the same including:
- Birth Certificate
- Photograph
- Address Proof
- Aadhaar card
- Parent’s Caste Certificate
- Income certificate
