IIT Kanpur has achieved a significant milestone in the QS World University Rankings 2025, reaching its highest-ever global rank of 222. This marks a remarkable leap of 41 places from its previous position of 263, reflecting a substantial improvement in its global standing. The rankings, announced in June 2025, highlighted IIT Kanpur's enhanced performance across multiple metrics, with an overall score rising to 53.7 from last year’s 39.3. The detailed performance metrics reveal the major factors behind this improvement.
IIT Kanpur scored 84.1 in citations per faculty, showing its growing research impact. Its academic reputation stood at 49.4, and the employer reputation metric saw a dramatic increase to 82.7, up by 25.8 points from the previous year. This surge in employer reputation indicates a stronger demand for IIT Kanpur graduates in the job market. Other notable scores include 47.6 in employment outcomes, 74.7 in sustainability, and 42.1 in research network, showcasing the institute’s holistic growth across multiple domains.
IIT Kanpur is now the fifth-highest ranked institution, following IIT Delhi (QS World Ranking 2025 -123), IIT Bombay (QS World Ranking 2025 -129), IIT Madras (QS World Ranking 2025 -180), and IIT Kharagpur (QS World Ranking 2025 - 215).
