IIT Kharagpur’s School of Medical Science to Launch New Courses
- IIT Kharagpur is all set to launch some new programmes in the field of medical science to encourage research in medical technology.
- These programmes will be launched in the coming academic year by the School of Medical Science and Technology.
TheIndian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpuris set to make some revolutionary changes in the field of medical technology education. With its School of Medical Science and Technology,IIT Kharagpuris planning to launch new courses from the upcoming academic year.
The information was made public through a statement issued by the institute on Sunday, April 29, 2018. The statement added that the aim of launching these programmes is to impart training toresearchersand students regardingmedical scienceand engineering.
Thenew courseshave been designed for individuals who seek careers in the field ofmedical technologyand instrumentation. One of the new courses that will be launched by IIT Kharagpur will beM.TechinBiomedical Engineeringi.e. a 2-year programme.

School of Medical Science and Technologyat IIT KGP already offers a unique 3-year programme named Masters in Medical Science and Technology. The programmes invites MBBS graduates and doctors to impart education and training in the field ofmedical technology.
The school is going to start an integratedMSc-PhD programmein collaboration with the Tata Medical Center, Kolkata from the up-coming academic session. The focus of the programme will bemolecular medical microbiology, medical physics and nuclear medicine.
Prof Suman Chakraborty, the Head of the School of Medical Science and Technology, talked about the programmes and said that these courses would bridge the gap between medicine, engineering and biological sciences and will help in producing world-class scientists.

Apart from these new courses, IIT Kharagpur is also in the process of establishing a 400-bedsuper speciality hospital. The hospital is likely to be operational by 2019.
