IIT Kharagpur Student Bags Platinum Award at KPIT Sparkle 2018

Students from IIT Kharagpur won a platinum award at KPIT Sparkle 2018 on Sunday. It is an initiative with the main aim of promoting innovation within and outside the organisation. Students at KPIT Sparkle 2018 were invited to develop next generation technologies and to innovate something new using new materials, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to make products in the transportation and energy sector a pollution free, greener and safer environment.

For the KPIT Sparkle 2018, more than 12,000 registrations were received from over 600 engineering and science institutes. Out of which 28 premier institutes such as Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology were in the pre-qualification stage. 30 teams were shortlisted for the final round on the basis of affordability, novelty and commercial viability of their proposed ideas.

The finalists showcased their innovations and projects at a grand exhibition in Pune on 18 February 2018 and were evaluated by an international jury consisting of renowned academicians, eminent industry experts, technologists and business leaders. Team Electrodes- IIT Kharagpur bagged the platinum award of Rs. 10 lakh for developing a flexible and disposable battery by using bacteria from sewage water.

Whereas a team from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management by the name of Smart Gear won a cash prize worth Rs. 5 lakh for developing a smart helmet for two-wheelers which provides accident alerts as well as details of the incident location to emergency contact lists saved by the user in the respective app.
