Kerala Technological University (KTU) Lower Semester Engineering Exam Cancelled

APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, also known as Kerala Technological University has decided not to conduct the semester exams of engineering courses as the state is facing serious issues due to the current Covid-19 situation. It has been decided that the marks of students (except final year) will be granted on the basis of Semester Point Grade Average (SPGA) in previous semesters. The council has decided that student who feels unsatisfied with the marks allocated will have an option to take the examination when the varsity will reopen.

However, the university could not reach a consensus on whether any leniency should be given to final year students or not. The members of the council were divided over the proposal over of university offering similar or institute level online level entrance exam.

Some members of the council suggested that the final-year students must have an option to attend a college-level online exam or their marks must be calculated based on their performance in the lower semester examination as they will be job seekers.

The opposition members of the council said that there cannot be an alternative for the conventional mode of exam for final year students. The issue has been raised to the university syndicate for further discussion and final decision.

Will KTU Cancel Final-Year Exams?

So far, there is no clarity whether KTU will cancel final-year exams or not. As per the UGC guidelines, final semester exams must be conducted for students by September. However, the university will still have to decide the mode of the exam if it goes ahead with conducting final-year exams. Most probably, the final-year exams will not be cancelled. The details on the mode of exam, guidelines and date sheet will be released after taking the final decision.
