Medical Council of India (MCI) has issued a new circular making Aadhar mandatory to track the attendance of faculty in medical colleges in India. MCI has directed all the faculty members of government and private medical colleges to register with their Aadhar Card details. The MCI will install biometric fingerprint machines in all the government and private medical colleges once all the faculty members register with Aadhar details.

The new circular issued by MCI will have a strong impact on both government and private medical colleges. One of the officials of MCI stated that some of the faculty members in government medical colleges often leave before 4:00 PM deadline to attend their lucrative practices. The mandatory Aadhar rule will avoid such circumstances as well as reduce the absentee count of the faculty.

The order issued by MCI will also have a strong impact on private medical colleges. Some of the private medical colleges comprise either ghost medical faculty or guest lecturers to teach students. Hence, the directive of MCI will avoid such situations.

As soon as the Aadhar card details of faculty members are linked to biometric attendance devices, the practice of ghost medical faculty in private medical colleges will be wiped out. MCI has given a strict warning to doctors who allow their names as ghost faculty in private medical colleges. If any doctor resorts to do so, stringent action will be taken, and he/ she will be debarred from practising medicine.
