More Engineering and Medical Seats Likely for Telangana Domicile Students from 2024 : As per the statement received by the authorities of the higher educational institutions in Telangana, the students of Telangana Domicile might occupy more engineering and medical seats in 2024. This is because the common admission process conducted between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh under Article 371 D of the Constitution from 2014 will stop in 2024. Hence, it will increase the seats for Telangana domicile students in engineering and medical colleges. Andhra Pradesh will conduct the admission process separately for the local students of AP.

Initially, the common admission norm said that 85% of the seats would be reserved for students from the local area, especially those living near Osmania University, and 15% would be open to all. Given this split, there are high chance that 15% of the seats will be occupied by Telangana students from 2024 onwards.

When the common admission process was held before, many AP students who appeared for ICET, EAMCET, LAWCET, and EdCET, secured better ranks than TS students, ensuring admission to various educational institutions in Telangana. AP students mostly appeared for TS EAMCET, and some also secured top positions. This increased the competition between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh students. Furthermore, the number of registrations from AP students increased from 51,848 in 2021 to 56,374 in 2023.

So, to establish more opportunities for Telangana locals, the split has been decided and confirmed through the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. However, the reservation for the remaining 15% is yet to be confirmed by the Government, but as per analysis, it will most likely be given to Telangana Domicile students from 2024.
