MU to Host 8th Indian Youth Science Congress from February 16 to 18, 2017

Mumbai University will host the eighth edition of Indian Youth Science Congress (IYSC) from February 16 to 18, 2017. Dr. Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice-Chancellor of the University said that the theme of the event will be on “Food for All in the Anthropocene Era”. The theme of 2017 focuses on food security in the climate change context.

It is one of the leading events of the University and offers the young researchers an opportunity to present their research work. The event is being jointly organised by the following institutes.

• M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) of Mumbai University

• SRM University

• Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development

The Youth Science Congress (IYSC) will discuss various aspects of food that affect people. The researchers will discuss on various issues like climate change, early warning signals, carbon sinks, natural resource management and various aspects of traditional wisdom. Researchers and young students are invited to submit their solutions for those problems using science and technology. The accommodation of the students and delegates will be organised by the organisers of the conference.

The Chancellor of Mumbai University also said that the youth forms a major chunk of the population in India and therefore, it is very important to facilitate and recognise their lateral learning. Prof. M S Swaminathan, Geneticist and an international administrator has taken a very active part in setting up the IYSC for the exchange of ideas since its early years.

So far, the Science Congress has completed seven editions in different parts of India involving several hundred students in each edition. The 7 ^th edition of the IYSC was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha in the year 2016.
