More than a hundred examinations have been cancelled by Nagpur University since the last summer because not even a single student appeared for them in the first place.
More than a hundred examinations have been cancelled by Nagpur University since the last summer because not even a single student appeared for them in the first place. Another 14 exams have been taken off the schedule in the current winter session citing the same problem.
Most exams among these were the ones where no student has appeared. However, Nagpur University has continued to waste manpower and resources in conducting them. The university made preparations and contacted paper setters, moderators, appointed invigilators etc. and further got the question papers printed and distributed at various test centres spread in four districts of Nagpur.

The administrators of the exam, working under the vice-chancellors, failed to take a decision in this regard. Hence, NU’s precious resources were wasted all along.
VC SP Kane and Pro-VC Pramod Yeole, however, have decided to cancel all the unnecessary exams because the students have not been appearing for it.
The exams cannot be cancelled immediately if no student comes to take the exam. It is the responsibility of the university to conduct the exam even if a single student appears in the test centre. The VC believed that they need to at least wait for a couple of years before calling it off completely for students may come back after taking a break. Absenteeism of students comes to notice only after the exam is conducted. Considering the number of test centres is huge (more than 250), data collection about the same takes time. Simultaneously, owing to the faculty and staff crunch in the University, the entire process becomes tedious.

Every year, Nagpur University conducts more than 1000 exams in the summer session and about 800 in the winter session. With the semester pattern coming into existence for all graduation courses, the work of the university is multiplied in context to the conduct of examinations for courses like Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) and others.
