Next Tech Lab of SRM University Wins IESA Hackathon 2017

A three-member team from SRM University has won the IESA Hackathon - Vision Summit 2017, held at The Leela Palace in Bangalore on February 21 and 22, 2017. All the winners work at Internet of Things group at Next Tech Lab of the University.

Three winners are -

• Aakash Jain (3rd Year Electronics & Communication Engineering)
• Suresh Kumar (1st Year Mechatronics)
• Swaroop Belur (3rd Year Electronics & Communication Engineering)

They prototyped a Smart Industrial Failure Detection System that combined technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, and Internet of Things (IoT). These students competed against the professionals having wide experiences hailing from a different industry and the startup ecosystem. They were able to impress the panel of judges hailing from industry.

All the three winners won INR 1 lakh along with a number of goodies. Priyank Kharg IT/BP Minister of Karnataka and Ujjwal Munjal, Founder of Hero Electronix presented them the cheque. Next Tech Lab was started by Ditthya Ramakrishnan and Anshuman Pandey. The Lab works in different domains like -

• Artificial Intelligence
• Electrical Systems
• AR/VR
• Cryptocurrency
• Computational Biology

The unique system built by the three-member team can collect vital data like – humidity, temperature and moisture and send them to cloud, which can be accessed by all from anywhere. The system uses artificial intelligence algorithms and analyses data to predict various kinds of failure in the machine. If a failure is predicted, a supervisor gets a message.

Apart from this, the team also made an app for reality mobile phone, which augments the data. This additionally allows quick detection and repair.
